Today is the last day we will have Ms. Kramer with us in fifth grade this year. Lets wish her good luck at her new school and hope we see her back at PPPCS next Fall!
We had an absolutely amazing trip yesterday to Philadelphia. Students completed research on Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, George Washington's home and the National Constitution Center. They were also given many compliments for their behavior but also for their knowledge of the American Revolution and the founding of our country! I will let you know when we upload more pics! Today we kicked off our research for the Star Spangled Banner Trail with Ranger Vince from Ft. McHenry. Students got a tour of what happened right here in Patterson Park during the Battle of Baltimore in September of 1814. Some students read passages out loud depicting the scene on top of Hampstead Hill and they all identified important locations on the map. The historical marker will be unveiled this Spring. Stay tuned for more information! The video for the Winter SHow is now online for everyone that missed it last week! We integrate art into all of our themes and were able to show all the parents last Thursday night. Enjoy! 5th Winter Show from Patterson Park on Vimeo. Today our students "created" 3 separate volcanoes using baking soda, water, and vinegar. The students created their own hypothesis before each volcano "erupted". Look at the pictures below to see what we did! Ask your children tonight about their measurements and whether or not their hypothesis was correct! Remember it is OK to have an incorrect hypothesis! That is what Science is all about! Until further notice we will be having recess at the end of the day on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays with the 5th grade teachers instead of following lunch. We feel this way we can offer more organized games for our students to play. Right now we have two football teams competing each afternoon. Wale World is leading the best of 7 series. Whoever wins the series will have a pizza party with Mr. K! Students MUST complete all homework and have a good behavior report in order to participate. Their teammates will be depending on them! Its also a great way to get some exercise and we will be graphing the scores of each game! Check back in to see who wins the series! Students in 5b wrote book summaries describing their favorite books for the Ravens Reading Rally taking place during lunch today. Learn more about this during the Gallery Walk on Thursday evening as part of the Winter Showcase!
Students acted out a newscasting scene in which they were reporting the details of an earthquake that took place in Anchorage, Alaska. The newscasts were recorded and we will share some Thursday night at the Winter Showcase! Learn more about earthquakes with your children on pp. 162-165 in their Science textbooks! |
