WELCOME to FIFTH GRADE at PPPCS!
This is the seventh year of fifth grade at Patterson Park Public Charter School in Baltimore, MD. Like the rest of the school we believe in a learning model that incorporates real-world experiences with a thematic based curriculum. We believe that when subjects are integrated, learning becomes more real and engaging, enhancing understanding of the targeted concepts. Our themes are a timeline of American history and are as follows: Explorers (1400s-1500s), Colonial Era (1604-1775), American Revolution (1776-1783), Wars of Expansion (1784-1860), and Civil War (1861-1865).
Since our first year fifth grade has lived through our school's motto "The City is Our Classroom". Within our city we visit places like The Frederick Douglass/Isaac Myers Maritime Park and Reginald F. Louis Museum. We also visit various historical sites within the state of Maryland like Antietam National Battlefied, Cumberland, MD, and Ft. Frederick. Fifth grade also visits areas outside of our state like Harper's Ferry, WV, Gettysburg National Battlefield, Philadelphia, PA, New York City, NY, and Washington, D.C. We conduct field research on all of our visits that incorporates all of Reading, Math, and Science skills we have learned in the classroom. Explore the rest of our website to learn more!
