Parents we had a fantastic trip to Cumberland, MD today. On the way we identified geographic landforms and bodies of water like Braddock Heights, South Mountain, Monocacy River, Sideling Hill and the Appalachian Mountains. The students also read a short book on what it was like to travel on the Underground Railroad on the bus ride out. We learned some amazing history about Ft. Cumberland, George Washington, and the Underground Railroad while we were at Emmanuel Parrish, as well. We hope to have more pics up by Monday.

What an impressive trip. The preparation and background research I've heard about these last few weeks, along with the links shared with parents, and the arts integration unit in music really prepared students to understand the significance of the visit to Cumberland and its historical importance. I've learned a alot and reacquainted myself with previous knowledge. My daughter enjoyed learning with with friends who were in attendance and I was saddened by the absence of those who missed such a fabulous journey and learning experience.

Not sure why the word "music" became a link to the Brady Bunch game. Ooops. Sorry.

Thanks for the kind words. All of the field trips this year have been really enjoyable while at the same time providing the children with a wealth of knowledge. We plan on having many more, as well! Our trip aboard "The Snow Goose" is just around the corner! :)
